Living Consciously for Sustainability

Science and Technology has provided us comfort. The life prior to it was struggling and was dangerous. Today, all the comforts what we enjoy has taken us far from the nature. The environment degradation and depleting resources! Are we building our comfort zones by harming natural environment? Yes. We have failed to strike a balance. Going Green is a well heard phrase which I was fascinated with. I strongly advocate it. The Growing population however is the major challenge which is calling for so called developmental activities and is the primary reason that we intrude into unexploited nature. The Population has to survive not just with food and water but also with all the comforts. Selfish as the man has become during the process of his evolution is eating away his home unless , there is a balancing force which will counter act on the exploitation of the environment & resources. Generally , going green is not a topic which governments, organizations and Corporations alone should handle. It is also the responsibility of each human being in this world. You and me are responsible to live consciously. It is interesting to note after centuries of logical inventions and spiritual reasoning & teachings on the way we should be living, we are still loosing on our green cover , melting icebergs and witnessing the aftereffects of climate change. So what you and me can do , if at all we can make a change ? After some browsing and soul searching, I thought about the below possibilities and am trying to practice one by one. Logic of each points and how it can positively effect the environment can be discussed . 1. Change to a vegetarian Diet. 2. Grow a vegetable garden at your home 3. Segregate Dry & wet waste . you can make compost out of your wet waste. 4. Use handloom clothes and promote handicrafts 5. Promote / Subscribe to local available utilities. 6. Use energy efficient appliances 7. Use Solar Power at home for heating, lighting etc. 8. Rain water harvesting 9. Reduce, Recycle and Reuse of resources ( Minimize waste) 10. Timely maintenance & Repair of appliances. However there are lot of other areas which needs a conscious thinking : How am I contributing to the population control? Am I doing lot of shopping ? Am I conscious about the brands I am choosing ? Am I conscious about the mode of travel say walking , cycling, car pooling , private transport incase of an alternative possible ? Can I get into a green job? Or How can I green my current job? Its a collective action which will lead to a positive change . But it starts with Me & You to be the change. The most sacred green sentence from Mahatma Gandhi; Earth provides everything for mans need , Not for his greed. And its up to us to think how greedy we are ? Conscious living is trying to find out in every choices we make, what's my need? and what's greed? ( This article to an extend is an invitation for minimal living . But most of us makes decisions which are cost and time convenient to each of us. It is not against you spending money & time to experience what life has to offer ; but spending for the most right ones by which your need will be met but along with that you are promoting sustainable means of living for you and others , which is the need of the hour)
